Commissions
Questions & Answers
Should I order my commission on your website or through your Etsy shop? It really depends on your preference. If you have creative ideas that require customizing outside of my normal commission patterns, then inquiring for a commission on my website will offer you more flexibility. If you are concerned about paying securely and receiving your artwork safely, both my website and Etsy have secure payment options. Etsy does offer me more protection than my website does, however; Etsy requires you to pay upfront, while I wait until your artwork is complete and approved by you before I ask for payment. Feel free to explore both options and decide which feels best to you.
How much do your commissions cost? My starting rate is $160 for an 8x10-inch watercolor painting or charcoal drawing. Portraits are an additional $25 per face. An archival finishing process is included, as is free shipping.
When and how do I pay? If you choose to order a commission from me through my Etsy shop, you will follow Etsy's payment procedures. If you choose to order a commission from me here on my website, you can learn more about how my payments work in the page called "Payments" under the "Commissions" tab.
Can I commission artwork in another size? My standard size is 8x10 inches or 10x8 inches. I handle larger and smaller commissions on a case-by-case basis, but I am happy and excited to paint larger or smaller to meet your hopes!
Questions such as "Can you paint me to look thinner?" and "Can you take the car out of the background?" On questions such as the latter, absolutely yes! I typically omit distracting elements of a reference photo from the final painting to create a more pleasing, timeless composition (unless you ask me to keep such details). On questions such as the first, I answer, "hesitatingly." I strive for depicting likenesses of people in my art, bringing forth beauty that is evident in their faces, mannerisms, and character. To purposefully distort a person's appearance in art so that they take on more of the world's definition of beauty means that there is less of the original person in the painting. I would rather paint you as you are because that is entirely more interesting and touching, in my opinion. However, if you really want me to change your appearance in your artwork, I can do that for you.
